Mr. Phillips' repertoire is Dvorak--the Sonatina in G, op. 100, and a selection of shorter works. The violinist approaches the heartfelt romanticism with a certain reserve, as if afraid of wallowing in it. Yet his amber tone and mellifluous touch illuminate Dvorak's melodies. The Sonatina, performed with respect for its essential simplicity, is especially winning. Charles Abramovic provides sensitive accompaniments.
