Flute Concerti

by Nielsen, Reinecke, and Busoni

Carl Nielsen (1865-1931)

Flute Concerto

Carl Reinecke (1824-1910)

Flute Concerto in D Major, Op. 283

Ferruccio Busoni (1866-1924)

Divertimento for Flute and Orchestra, Op. 52

Aurele Nicolet, Flute

Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra

Kurt Masur, Conductor

It can be quite rewarding for flutists to delve into the music of the late romantic and early modern composers, as is proven by the program chosen by Aurele Nicolet here. Carl Reinecke's Flute Concerto, even though it was written in 1908, does not reflect the 20th century at all (the Chopin motto at the beginning is a clear indication of this). The other two works heard here, however, were strictly "up to the minute" stylistically when they were written.
