Alfred Haynes, "Sounds" The Evening Sun (August 31, 1985)

Interpretation of the performance leaves nothing to be desired, and the beloved "Daybreak" section on Side 2 is exquisite in its flutes and harps and wordless choral singing. It is definitely a record to have.

Musical Heritage ... has rendered a valuable service to record collectors by reissuing Ernest Ansermet's definitive performance of the complete Ravel ballet Daphnis et Chloe with L'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and Les Choeurs de la Radio Romande (Lausanne). The record, originally on the London (English Decca) label, has been out of print for some time. Ansermet, who founded and conducted the Swiss orchestra and specialized in the French school (Ravel, Debussy, Roussel, and Stravinsky), died in 1969.
Despite its relative age, the performance, in good stereo, remains fresh and satisfying for most of the first side. Interpretation of the performance leaves nothing to be desired, and the beloved "Daybreak" section on Side 2 is exquisite in its flutes and harps and wordless choral singing. It is definitely a record to have.
